About 8 years ago, about the time I retired from teaching, I surprised my husband, and actually myself, by asking for a DSLR for Christmas. I am enjoying the challenge of learning to use it. I use it every day.

I love learning about new techniques and I am always trying new things. I love taking photos of my family. My grandchildren are used to me running for my camera every time we’re together. I love to be outside, and fortunately I live in Northern California in an area where everyday I can find something beautiful to photograph. I especially love to travel, and bringing home photographs to process allows me to stretch out my travel experiences. I am fortunate to have a husband who supports my passion.

I am also fortunate to have a great group of women friends who are also into photography. We shoot together, learn from each other, and encourage each other. Each year we enter out local county fair and celebrate all of the ribbons we earn.

Personally, I have been married for almost 49 years, have two daughters and three grandchildren. I retired from teaching about 8 years ago. I am a native Californian and currently live in Davis, California.  I'm also known as Maryellen Bauer.

I use a Canon 5DMarkiv  most of the time. I also have  Canon 70D and a T2i which was my first DSLR. Just recently I acquired a Canon G16 which is very handy.  My Canon 24-105 is my "walking around" lens.  I also have a 16-35, a 100 mm Macro and the 100-400.  I do most of my own printing on a Canon Pixma Pro 100 which I find to be very reliable.
